Depression & Stress

These tips are generic and may not fit every situation. Please call my office if you need more personal and in-depth consultation or visit the Family Articles section.

Coping with Anxiety Disorders
Unlike the relatively mild, brief anxiety caused by a stressful event such as a business presentation or a first date, anxiety disorders are chronic, relentless, and can grow progressively worse if not treated.

Living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSD is the term applied to psychological and emotional problems that develop as the result of experiencing any serious, traumatic event.

Overcoming Depression
Everyone experiences some unhappiness or “the blues”; however, when depression persists and impairs daily life, it may be an indication of a depressive disorder.

Managing Stress
The stress response can be an asset for raising levels of performance during critical events such as a sports activity, an important meeting, or in situations of actual danger or crisis. However, if stress becomes persistent and low-level, it can produce physical or psychological damage over time.

Conquering Fears and Phobias
Phobias are fears that are out of proportion to the situation or object one is frightened of. When you feel fearful and there doesn’t seem to be a logical and immediate reason to be afraid, you may have a phobia.

Overcoming Social Phobia
Recent research shows that people who experience this problem and find it debilitating and controlling their life have a valid problem, and help is available for them to deal with it.

ADD in Adults
Many AD/HD adults have learned survival skills to help cloak their AD/HD. They hide their cluttered desks and learn to look attentive even when they have no idea what has just been said. Frustration becomes more apparent as the gap between ability and actual performance grows.
