Am I a good parent?
Am I a good parent? It's a question that often haunts us as parents. Learn what do do when, to your dismay, you find that you haven't been using the best parenting techniques. You're going to make mistakes! However, there are five key areas all good parents learn to master.
Happy blended families
There are unique stresses and strains that affect blended families - families that consist of stepparents and stepchildren. Family life and child rearing is too important to be undertaken on a “trial and error” basis. Educate yourself on how you can have a happy family.
Guiding a gifted child
How do I know if my child is gifted? Does it really matter? How are gifted children unique? What challenges do they face? Parents and educators need to educate themselves on giftedness in order to guide these special kids. Learn to learn how to identify giftedness and what you need to do to inspire these extraordinary children.
Coping with ADD/ADHD
What is ADD or ADHD? We hear about it all the time -in the news, from teachers and other parents - but what is it and how does it affect kids who have it? What do I do if my child is diagnosed with ADD? The whole family needs to learning how to deal effectively with the diagnosis. Is medication or behavioral therapy the best approach?
Adoptive Families
Raising adopted children and growing up adopted is different than for other families. There are many similarities, but the exceptions to the rule need to be examined too. So in addition to the regular books and seminars on effective parenting, adoptive families should be reading and talking to adoption professionals about the special needs of their families.
